Frank Oknes

1967, Norway

Being born and raised in a small coastal town close to the Arctic Circle, water and light has always fascinated me. I took to drawing very early, and I am still very fond of the drawings created in my childhood’s naiveté. I aim to maintain the inner child through my entire life; never is the mind more creative and open.

Back in 1988 I became more entangled in digital expressions, and since 1993 most of my work has been in the digital realm. To better understand and aid my digital creation I have continued to draw and paint with physical media. In my view, having a better understanding of the analogue world makes for better digital creation.

Still, the digital expression is closest to my heart, and I love blending art with technology, such as using math expressions for both look and movement. My continuous search for new possibilities won’t stop until my last heartbeat.

Below you will find my most recent work, and a retrospective gallery is in the works.

Enjoy!

Experience

Certified professional photographer, 1992-

Certificate of apprenticeship (2000). Professionally educated through school (2 years in Stokmarknes, Norway),  apprenticeship (1,5 years in Alta, Norway).

Both my education and apprenticeship took place in the midst of breathtaking beauty well above the Article Circle. The changing light through the seasons is an immense experience, from the lack of daylight and massive aurora borealis in the winter to the midnight sun and the never ending daylight during summer. And the extreme weather conditions are truly inspiring and awesome.

University of Westminster (London) 1993-1994

BA (Hons) Film, Video and Photographic Arts.

Finished year one only before professional career in digital imaging.

Preus Foto, 1997-2001

Manager of the digital imaging department in the younger days of digital imaging. A highly valuable experience in this lifelong journey in bits and pixels.

Adobe Photoshop, 1993-

Since Photoshop version 2 this has always been my number 1 tool, and it still is. All my digital images have been through some kind of treatment in Photoshop on their way to a finished piece of art.

3D visualisation, 2003-

Extensive experience in Carrara, Cinema 4D, RealFlow, Vue, ZBrush.

Building bridges

Combining 2D and 3D imagery is immensely gratifying and satisfying, and I believe this combined frontier is what opens the most possibilities for my creative effort. No limits.
